What is NextGEN?

NextGEN was formed at the GEN + 10 conference on October 5th, 2005. Over 50 young adults gathered at the conference as the GEN Youth Council. Sessions allowed conference participants to reflect on the role of youth in the Global Ecovillage Movement. Based on this gathering, NextGEN, a youth organized branch of GEN, emerged to seek the support and community critical to creating global change.

After another planning meeting in July 2006, NextGEN created regional networks. This meeting is convened to create a 2007-2008 annual action plan.

Our mission is to inspire all youth and provide the support necessary to take action towards creating a sustainable world. Within the Global Ecovillage Movement, NextGEN will create a network of flames that will support the empowerment of youth who, alongside their elders, can be effective ambassadors for the world they wish to create. Initial planning is focused on networking, increasing participation, training and intergenerational dialog.
